When the brilliant and fearless Dabney Lawless from Lawless Astrology invited me to a cord-cutting ceremony the day of the Saturn-Neptune conjunction, I immediately affirmed my attendance. A psychic cord-cutting from the current administration’s monopoly of our mind sounded like the perfect Saturn-Neptune ritual and one that many of us desperately needed.
I never meant to get swallowed into the daily drama of the Dark Wizard’s magic show. I have often justified his co-opting of my attention by blaming my astrology work. But truth be told, I had to keep rescuing myself from becoming overly mesmerized by the swarm of outrageous headlines which often buries consequential news underneath. Not that some of the distractions aren’t also important, but the salacious headlines of past misdeeds veil current legislation that will impact us for generations, like repeated attempts to overturn past legislative protections of public land.
I have to repeatedly remind myself to zoom out, to center myself amidst the deluge of crises threads opting for my attention on any given day. Meditation helps. Studying the larger astrological cycles helps. As I mentioned in a recent video about the Mercury retrograde cycles in the water triplicity this year, I naturally prepare for the future in ways that my intellectual understanding cannot grasp.
Discovering Human Design a year into my two-year Evolutionary Astrology program was one such divine intervention. My mind can get easily obsessed with a topic of interest, and ironically I needed another obsession to balance out my obsession with astrology 😅. My teacher had simultaneously admonished me for my obsessiveness in studying the materials inside his program, but also for attempting to learn other types of astrology outside of his program. I compromised by shifting my attention to something astrologically based, but safely outside of the typical astrological community 🤣.
I entered the Human Design groups at a unique time when people were sharing Human Design source files freely. I got access to reading and audio materials that would keep a normal person occupied for years. I took a deep dive into self-study for approximately two years, taking a few structured classes in-between. Astrology and Human Design are vastly different and yet I think they compliment each other. Like different house systems or astrological traditions, you often see the same pattern showing up through a slightly different lens.
My mind loves to see patterns this way. You could say, my mind needs to see the diversity of patterns to grasp a topic appropriately. I learn both fast and slow. My Astrology teacher did not understand this. He saw my learning process as a detriment rather than a necessity. In fact, I now see my learning process as a gift.
Through the Human Design lens, I learned that with my triple-split emotional design and mixed variables, my mind processes information best this way. I was only doing what was natural to me, and yet I was made to feel like something I was doing was wrong. I noticed a familiar pattern in my life: I internalized these messages from other people even while I rebelled against them. While I was becoming conscious of these patterns, I realized that I’m what’s now labeled as neurotypical. If I allow this natural process to play out, the depth of my understanding is more robust and nuanced than most.

Just like Astrology, there is a lot of depth to Human Design. I often bring in the Human Design lens to my monthly blog and video content, but my material is often more advanced. There are many people focused on the basics, and I naturally gravitate toward writing about what interests me the most. As a Projector, I find myself doing my own thing until I get that special invitation that pulls me into how I can best be of service to the other.
